Software upgrading

There are many reasons to upgrade the software deployed on a computer of which by far the most important is enhanced or improved security. Other reasons include added or extended user functionality and improved driver stability.
In most cases, the upgrading of software can be accomplished automatically such as with Windows® or Microsoft® Updates.

Any user can easily check whether the software assumed to be most at risk is fully up-to-date through a well respected website at http://secunia.com and following the links to “Scan now”.

When vulnerable software is found, links will be offered to the appropriate locations to install the latest versions.
Problems can occur in a number of cases where the earlier versions must by fully removed from a computer before the later version can be installed. Other difficulties might arise where other “useful” applications are offered along with the required download. This situation can often result in too many toolbars appearing at the top of the internet browser window or other unexpected behaviour such as different browsers becoming the default setting or strange desktop icons appearing.
